Brother Stephens serves as the Evangelist for the Southside Church of Christ in Durham, North Carolina. The congregation started as a mission work with approximately fourteen (14) members in October of 1982. In 1985, by faith Bro. Stephens became the full-time minister of the Southside congregation. Today, there are more than five hundred (500) faithful members involved in several ministries at the Southside congregation of the church of Christ.
Brother Stephens is a native of Jacksonville, Florida where he attended the local schools. In 1971, he obeyed the Gospel under the tutelage of Brother Walter Cox at the Westside Church of Christ. He later placed membership with the Northside Church of Christ in 1973 where he trained under Brother Charlie McClendon. There, Brother Stephens assisted with the youth, and in January of 1975 he became the Assistant Minister. After several years of working with the youth and various other ministries, he became the first full-time Assistant Minister for the Northside congregation of the church of Christ.
He and his wife, the former Altamease (Skeater) Ray, have been married for over 40 years. They have three adult children and five grandchildren, all of who remain very active in the church.
Minister Orlander R. Thomas, B.S., Religious Education, Southwestern Christian College Master of Business Administration, University of Phoenix M.S., Ministerial Leadership, Amridge University Min. Thomas is originally from Durham, North Carolina where he answered the call of God to the ministry at the age of 17. Currently serves the Southside Church of Christ in Durham, North Carolina as Assistant Ministers. Married to the beautiful Britney Thomas of Los Angeles, California and they have three wonderful children, Omri, Orlander II, and Brightlee Rose Thomas. Min. Thomas has more than 15 years of academic training and experience in the fields of Ministry, Christian Education, and Church Administration & Development. He also has Department of Education credentials and has held a number of positions with Los Angeles Unified School District and Miami-Dade Public Schools. He has acquired a unique level of knowledge in the areas of secular and spiritual leadership, and considers himself as a student of exposition in the craft of preaching.
